The Cookbook Club’s theme this month is Local Food.
You can find some local food recipe books at the library here. Otherwise, just buy local and pick any recipe that includes your ingredients!.
Places to buy & local:
- Barrie Farmer’s Market (or a market in your area)
- Local Foods Mart in Downtown Barrie to buy locally sourced food.
- Local area farms (find a farm here)
- Unity Market
- Eat at The Farmhouse restaurant, The North or Painter’s Hall for some locally sourced ingredients.
What is in season now? Apples, beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, corn, cucumber, eggplant, grapes, lettuce, nectarines, onions, peaches, pears, peas, peppers, plums, potatoes, radishes, raspberries, squash and tomatoes.
I came across an interesting article on The Story of Porcelain and Chocolate. I think we should have a hot chocolate tea party with chocolate for our February meeting!
Next year one of us has to try out the Barrie Curb Appeal event http://barriecurbappeal.ca/ because it sounds delicious, 5 chefs, 5 wines, and outdoor dining. If only they had promoted it better! Also see the Barrie CTV news clip on this event.
