I visited the Barrie Farmer’s Market today and picked up mushrooms, garlic and organic potatoes, all ingredients for my delicious Sunday vegetarian dinner.
Stay tuned for pictures and the big ‘reveal’ of what my dish is. At 9am the Market was busy with long weekenders enjoying the weather and shopping local. We also bought a delicious mixed fruit basket.
Vegetables and fruit that are now in season that I saw at the Market included: corn, potatoes, cauliflower (saw an orange one!), apples, grapes, cucumber, peaches, peas, peppers, plums, radishes, onions, lettuce and tomatoes. Try and cook or bake with some of these ingredients which won’t be in season much longer. Simcoe County’s Farm Fresh website has a great “In Season” produce table that you can reference.
If you are looking to eat out this weekend why not try a vegetarian option? I have been craving Rawlicious pizza and non-dairy & gluten cheese cake, or try their Spring Rolls and Pad Thai. Rawlicious is at 50 Dunlop St. E. across from Memorial Square. Rawlicious has a few fall events, Monday, September 10th is their Intro to Raw Foods Workshop Hosted by: Jessica Valiant (Registered Holistic Nutritionist), $40p.p, 6:30pm-8:30pm and September 15th is their 1 year Anniversary Customer Appreciation Day, you can get ½ price smoothies ALL day long!! I want to try the ChocoMinty smoothie with nutmilk, banana, cacao, agave & peppermint. YUM!
If you missed the Farmer’s Market you can still buy local and fresh from Local Foods Mart Downtown at 123 Dunlop St. E. They are open Monday – Sunday till 8pm.
Happy cooking Les Gourmandes! (Points for anyone who can tell me what this means at our first Cookbook Club meeting)
